Sustainable conferencing has never been more important than today. Conferences are associated with high energy consumption, high waste production and increased traffic. ECTRIMS is committed to undertake all possible measures to minimise the impact of its congresses on the environment.
This year – as the first fully hybrid annual congress is being held in Amsterdam, NL and online – ECTRIMS has decided to support the Dutch non-governmental organisation “De Gezonde Stad” and their aim to make cities more sustainable.
ECTRIMS 2022 Donates 1 EURO for Each Delegate
For every delegate that registers for ECTRIMS 2022, ECTRIMS will donate 1 EURO to “De Gezonde Stad” (The Healthy City) and their programme “Trees for Amsterdam”.
Why the "Gezonde Stad"
“De Gezonde Stad” is an NGO and works on making Amsterdam greener, healthier and more sustainable. “De Gezonde Stad” initiates and develops projects together with leading companies and residents to make Amsterdam healthy and fit for the future. The joint force of residents, companies and government is necessary to improve Amsterdam. A healthy city is a city that is climate-proof, sustainable and has its citizens engaged. Practical and applicable solutions are needed to reach this goal and citizens need to have a central role in making the city. The organisation’s aim is to catalyse innovative, tangible, scalable solutions that inspire and activate others to start “doing” sustainable.
Examples of successful programmes are Trees for Amsterdam, Green Light District and the local food platform Van Amsterdamse Bodem.
About the "Trees for Amsterdam" programme
“Trees for Amsterdam” programme is fundamental in making the city more sustainable and healthier. Therefore, for five years already, the programme developed ways to promote the importance of more trees in Amsterdam. Part of this, is to plant trees together with citizens and other private parties and organise at least one big event every year.
On 26 November 2022 , the next big event takes place in Amsterdam. The programme is giving >1500 free trees to the citizens of Amsterdam. Anyone can come and pick up a tree and then plant it in their (shared) garden, or on any other private property in the city. And that is necessary, because Amsterdam is getting less green, more crowded and faces more extreme weather conditions. Trees help to keep the city healthy. The idea is that all these trees together actually form a forest, so we are transforming Amsterdam into an “urban forest”.
